The Apaches traveled to Oak Hill to take on the Golden Eagles in their second contest on turf. Wabash was able to limit the shot attempts made by Oak Hill, and controlled the majority of play in the first half. After banging several shot attempts off the goal posts, Wabash’s Solomon France hit the game winner off a Kolton Wilson assist in a laser shot across the 18 into the back of the net with six minutes left in the first half. Wabash went up 1-0 at halftime, but would continue to rely on it’s strong work ethic in this equal matchup with the Eagles. Oak Hill came out strong in the second half, creating more shot opportunities and scoring attacks. Despite this surge, Wabash’s keeper Hannah Layne denied each opportunity, and racked up 6 saves on the night. Layne’s defensive line was able to hold off any further attacks, and with 9 minutes left in the game, Wabash’s Rickey Trejo crashed the goal off a shot attempt from Jacob Fuchs to put an insurance goal on the board for the Apaches. Wabash put the game away 2-0 over Oak Hill, bringing its record to 3-2 on the season. The Apaches will travel again on Monday, May 6 for its second matchup against Peru at 5:30 pm.
